Environmental Pathologies,
reality and challenges in Public Health.
The first European Congress on Environmental Pathologies aims to respond to the need for
discovery, understanding and action in our daily lives.
If we consider both our indoor environment, where we spend 80% of our time, and our outside
environment, we notice that profound changes have taken place in our living spaces.
As our homes and workplaces become increasingly protected, isolated and confined, these new
factors can have a negative impact on our health. Our way of life has been changed by the numerous
improvements in the prevention of disease and in particular the drive towards the use of new materials.
Microparticles, nanotechnologies, electromagnetic waves and global warming are new terms for
everyone but also for the doctor who may ask the questions:
• What is the environment for scientists specialising in earth,
life and man?
• How does man adapt to and has adapted to the environment
in which he lives or has lived?
• What methods would allow us to demonstrate the
responsibility of the environmental factors in the origin of
certain diseases?
• What approaches can we use to review diseases associated
with the environment?
Next
Perhaps it will not be possible to answer all these points during our European congress however our
ambition is to at least pose the questions to arouse reflection on the scale of our old continent.
A high quality scientific programme will be led by leading European Experts in environmental disease.
Specialists in general medicine, occupational medicine, academic medicine, public health, pulmonology,
neurology, allergy, dermatology, environmental health, oncology, endocrinology and nutrition will all be
involved in this great current debate.
Ten years ago the “
Union Régionale des Médecins Libéraux de Haute-Normandie” created the first environmental
health committee. In 2005 it held the first national conference dedicated to this theme and from this platfom,
with more drive than ever, it founded the National Interdisciplinary College for Health and Environment in 2009.
This first European Congress will continue the process that has made ROUEN and the NORMANDIE region a centre of
excellence in Environmental Health and a point of reference within Europe.
We therefore invite Doctors, Pharmacists, Entrepreneurs, Engineers, Quality Control Managers, Industry Executives,
Institutions and Local Government Officials to join us and take an active part in the success of the first European
meeting dedicated to Environmental Pathologies.
